This is really insane. So, in January, I was asked to be the sole designer for the All Star Weekend celebration held in Chicago. The theme of this year's All-Star weekend was "OWN THE GAME" which for me, is honestly the energy I had to summon to get these custom graphics, posters, and animations done in two weeks time. Regardless of my stress, I had such an overall amazing experience throughout this time.
The weekend consisted of a kickoff party at Station 23 in Chicago. An entire party with me as the feature local artist. CRAZY RIGHT. Throughout the night, people were able to get any of my custom graphics on a tee right in the space with the amazing custo crew. I debuted a short animation and even gave a little speech (yes me, crazy).
The next day I spent at Station 23 meeting all types of visitors and residents who came up to the store to get custom tees. I also got to meet coaches from Chicago's high schools and the Whitney Young Girls Basketball team who were the state champs.
We ended the day with my lesson with the kids of Little Black Pearl. This was a workshop that I got to curate on my own, which I named "Comic Making with Mia Lee." This workshop was about the art of storytelling and in comics and creating the characters and their backstory for the comic. As most know, I'm super heavy into comics and cartoons (peep Unwonderful World if you don't know already) so naturally, I wanted to share this fun with these brilliant high schoolers who killed the workshop, by the way.
Overall, this was a such a raw and surreal experience. Can't wait for 2020 :)
